Structure of the DRD7 Collaboration
The DRD7 collaboration is organized into several key components:
Work Packages and Working Groups (WPs and WGs)
Seven specialized areas focusing on distinct technical themes:
- WP 7.1: Data density and power efficiency
- WP 7.2: Intelligence on the detector
- WP 7.3: 4D and 5D techniques
- WP 7.4: Extreme environments
- WP 7.5: Backend systems and commercial-off-the-shelf components
- WP 7.6: Complex imaging ASICs and technologies
- WG 7.7: Tools and Technologies
Governance Bodies
The DRD7 collaboration operates through several key committees, each responsible for distinct areas to ensure well-rounded governance and strategic alignment:
-
Collaboration Board: This board acts as the scientific and technical representation of all collaborating institutions, with each institute sending one representative. It meets at least once a year to review progress and strategic direction, often coinciding with DRD7 workshops. Key responsibilities include approving annual reports, endorsing proposals for new projects and work packages, and appointing members to the Steering Committee. The Collaboration Board also elects its own chairperson for a two-year term, aiming for rotation among institutions to maintain diverse representation.
-
Resources Board: Representing the funding agencies, the Resources Board oversees financial matters and ensures alignment between project budgets and institutional resources. Meeting at least once a year, this board approves financial aspects of the DRD7 progress report and new project proposals. It includes representatives from collaborating institutions or delegates acting on behalf of one or more agencies.
-
Steering Committee: As main technical guide, the Steering Committee supervises work packages, manages updates to the collaboration's R&D vision, and organizes annual DRD7 workshops for public reporting. It issues yearly progress reports, which are presented to the Collaboration Board and to the DRDC annual reviews, and nominates work package conveners for approval. Comprising four to eight members with diverse scientific and regional backgrounds, the committees members serve three-year terms, with planned rotation to balance continuity and fresh perspectives.
-
Technical Committee: Formed by the work package conveners and Steering Committee members, the Technical Committee oversees project progress, organizes internal reviews, and provides recommendations to projects within DRD7. This committee is also responsible for supervising DRD7 presentations and publications and contributes to drafting the annual progress report.
